How to Pick a Sit/Stand Desk for Your Office

How to pick a sit/stand desk for your office
Sit-stand desks are becoming increasingly popular as more and more office workers are recognising the health benefits of alternating between sitting and standing throughout the working day, including reduced risk of obesity and chronic diseases, improved posture, increased energy levels and productivity. We hope our top tips in this article help you pick the right desk for your office.
Our top tips:
- Type of adjustment - Sit-stand desks come with two different types of adjustment: manual and electric. Manual sit-stand desks require you to crank a handle to raise and lower the work surface. Electric sit-stand desks allow you to raise and lower the work surface with the push of a button. Electric sit-stand desks are more expensive, but they're also more convenient to use.
- Electric Motor type – there are 2 main types of motor options: a single or dual motor. The single motor is usually the cheaper option but due to the motors limited capability, these desks are usually smaller and have a lower weight capacity. The dual motor desks are quicker as they can lift more weight more easily.
- Height range - Make sure to choose a sit-stand desk with a height range that will work for you. This means finding a desk that can go low enough for you to sit comfortably and high enough for you to stand comfortably.
- Weight capacity - Consider the weight capacity of the sit-stand desk you're considering. This is especially important if you have a lot of equipment on your desk, such as a computer, monitor, and printer. Most sit-stand desks have a weight capacity of at least 90kg, but some can hold up to 140kg or more.
- Features - Some sit-stand desks come with additional features, such as a keyboard tray, monitor mount, or cable management system. Consider which features are important to you and choose a sit-stand desk that has those features. We can offer a variety of desk add-ons so please contact us to discuss your requirements.
- Consider your budget - Sit-stand desks can range in price from a few hundred pounds to over a thousand pounds. Choose a sit-stand desk that fits your budget and your needs. There are also sit-stand accessories that will convert an existing static desk to a standing desk.
