In this blog post we wanted to share a few industry insights about the price of packaging materials over time and what that could mean for you.
What is happening with cardboard boxes and paper-based products?
In the past year, we can see that the price has steadily increased, with a steep increase in the past few months, hence the increased pricing across the products on the ‘front line’. With this increase continuing on the upward trend, with no sight of fall in the foreseeable, it’s certainly something to consider. It may be worth stocking up on some paper-based products like corrugated cardboard or copier paper now with the fourth quarter pending and the index looking so aggressive.
What about plastic products?
When we consider plastic products, such as strapping, polythene sheets, stretch wrap, and polybags, we can see that the pricing hasn’t increased dramatically since April. This initial price increase back in April would have been due to the plastic tax coming into force. It’s worth considering that bespoke items which haven’t been bought in a while would have seen price increases in-line with the market trend.
In summary, assessing the data, it now seems like a great time to stock up. With high demand expected in Q4, and price increases on the horizon, now could be the ideal time to plan ahead.
